Media Forms

How does the trailer use media language to catch the attention of the audience ?
The trailer shows many different camera angles and shots, firstly there is a shot of Snapes back and it is as if the camera is following him; which makes the audience feel like they are behind Snape. There is a sihloutte created by the effect of the camera following Snape, this is also a short tracking shot. Snape is dressed in all black which shows us that he may be a dark character. There is also low key lighting which creates the shadow. It also connotes danger which makes the audience feel intimidated. The close up of the facial expressions of the characters shows us their feelings. There are also a few medium shots which allows us to see the body language too. There is point of view shots too; so the audience feels like they are directly looking at the item. It also makes the audience feel powerful as they feel like they are able to see what is happening and feeling like the actor.

The sound in the trailer is non-digetic; we see that it is contrapuntal to the scene due to the fact there is scenes of action. But the contrapuntal music not only creates tension but it also lets the audience feel like with the 'good feel' slow music that there is hope. There are also many dark colours being used within the trailer, this again shows the suspense and connotes danger throughout the scene. Due to the fact that most of the shots are low key lighting it creates a lot of shadows. It also intimates the audience. Top lighting is also used in this trailer which allows the audience to see the facial experiences more clearer.

How is gender represented in the trailer ?

The target audience for this movie trailer would be young adults ; due to the fact that this is a fictional magical world. The movie genre would be fantasy due to the fact that there is not such thing as 'Hogwarts'. This movie appeals to both genders due to the fact there is an on going love story throughout each part, but there is also an action genre due to the fact that their is an on going rivalry between Harry Potter and Voldermort. This film could also be sexist in a way as it appeals more to men. We see more action in this trailer rather than a love story. It also connotes danger through out the movie so it appeals more to men.
We also see that the target audience is also family, there is also a lot of enigma codes which have been created. Forcing the audience to wonder what will happen through out the movie.
